The color is deep ruby-red with intense violet highlights.

The nose is very rich, generous and complex, laden with a vast array of aromas. Notes of graphite and extremely intense fruit such as blackcurrant and morello cherry mingle with black fruit aromas of plums, black cherries, blueberries and blackberries, underpinned by floral notes of lavender and rosemary.

Juicy, fine and elegant on the palate with complexity, depth, good volume and structure yet well-polished, fresh and mineral with silky, fine tannins. Notes of cedar and cigar box come to the fore, culminating in a long aftertaste and well-balanced acidity.

The combination of superbly balanced power and elegance suggests wonderful ageing potential.

This means diurnal and nocturnal temperatures vary significantly, a highly favorable characteristic for the maturation of Cabernet and Syrah.

Carmenere and Petit Verdot also grow in a Mediterranean climate, but here the average temperature is 1ºC higher than in the Cabernet and Syrah vineyards, which allows each variety to reach optimal ripeness.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah grow in well-balanced alluvial soils rich in pebbles, with a silty-sandy-clay to silty-clay texture, and bedrock at a depth of 3.0 meters below the surface. The vineyards were planted in 1997, 2003, and 2009. The Carmenere and Petit Verdot vineyards were planted in 1998 in deep clay soils, which favor a smooth, elegant tannic structure.

CLIMATOGRAPHY, HARVEST CONDITIONS

Generally speaking, the 2022 harvest produced a very well-balanced vintage with high aromatic intensity. Average maximum temperatures were slightly higher than in 2021 (+0.6°C overall).

Rainfall was very scarce, limited to the winter months and significantly lower than in 2021. There was no rainfall in spring and summer. Only one spell of rainfall was recorded at the end of the harvest in late April. This did not affect the quality of the grapes, however, since 99% had already been picked.

Average spring temperatures were within the normal range and no frost was recorded, with a variation of -0.1% compared to the seasonal norm. Bud break was homogeneous and 3 days late on average.

Flowering occurred under optimal temperatures and without rainfall, approximately 1 to 3 days later than usual depending on the grape variety.

January and February were warm, with temperatures 0.3°C above average. Véraison (colour change) began quickly and was very even, lasting for a short period of around 30 to 35 days, with variations depending on the grape variety.

March was dry and temperatures remained high: 0.15 °C above average. They dropped in April, down 0.2°C compared to the seasonal norm, which slowed the ripening process and was propitious to the development of more intense aromas along with good phenolic ripeness.

The color is deep, intense ruby-red colour with a purple hue.

The wine has an intense and fresh nose that opens on blackcurrant and black cherry aromas then goes on to develop graphite and cigar-box notes mingled with subtle touches of fresh spice, toasted almond, vanilla, and sandalwood from time spent in oak.

Palate starts out powerful, fresh and elegant attack paves the way for a highly complex body with an elegant tannic structure and a silky texture. The mid-palate is beautifully balanced, with a natural freshness that has a distinctly mineral cast, and reveals a complex range of flavours in which wild bilberry and blackberry mingle elegantly with oriental spice and Sichuan pepper notes enhanced by a touch of toasted hazelnut. The long and balanced finish lingers on persistent black berry fruit flavours and a return of spice and coffee notes.

The finish – very long, fresh and lingering, at once powerful and elegant – heralds excellent ageing potential.

CLIMATOGRAPHY, HARVEST CONDITIONS

The weather in 2021 was ideal for expressing the freshness and elegance of our terroirs. It was a cooler vintage than the previous one, with average maximum temperatures 1.2° C lower than in 2020. Rainfall, concentrated in the winter months, was considerably higher than in the previous two vintages.

A relatively mild winter, with temperatures 0.2° C higher than the average for the last ten years, was followed by a dry spring with little rain. Flowering took place evenly, three to five days later than the ten-year average depending on the grape variety.

In a summer of two halves, a first, cooler and wetter part was followed by a hot and dry February, with temperatures 0.8° C higher than the average.

In these conditions, the grapes matured smoothly to reach full aromatic and phenolic maturity, meaning that they could be picked at precisely the right time for each variety while retaining their freshness.

Picking started with the Syrah from 22 to 26 March, five days later than in 2020. The other varieties ripened slowly in lower-than-average temperatures in April, and we continued with the Cabernet Franc from 5 to 9 April and Cabernet Sauvignon from 11 to 23 April, both at optimum phenolic maturity. In this cooler weather, the Carmenere and the Petit Verdot were picked later, the former from 3 to 14 May and the latter from 10 to 14 May. Higher-than-average rainfall with a rainy spell in the summer and slightly lower temperatures than the average for the last ten years were the decisive factors behind the exceptional balance of the 2021 vintage.

As a result, the wines of the vintage are fresh and elegant while remaining powerful and highly complex. The conditions encouraged the expression of each grape variety and terroir, especially in the expression of the fruit which, combined with a complex mid-palate, brings elegance and reveals the true identity of the terroirs.
2021 is one of the great Chilean vintages, yielding wines with excellent ageing potential.

The finish is concentrated and well-balanced, with long-lasting black fruit aromas, followed by retronasal notes of spices and roasted hazelnuts.

The powerful, refined finish goes on and on, suggesting excellent ageing potential.

CLIMATOGRAPHY, HARVEST CONDITIONS

The 2020 vintage benefited from exceptionally warm and dry weather throughout the growing cycle.
The average temperature was 0.7°C warmer than the 9-year average, with particularly low rainfall (-80% compared to the previous 9 vintages) concentrated exclusively in winter.

After a relatively cool winter, a dry and particularly warm spring set the tone for the year, triggering bud break one week earlier than usual. These conditions lasted and led to quick and homogeneous flowering.
Summer began generally warmer than average (+0.6°C), resulting in fairly even véraison (colour change).
Conditions in late summer and early autumn were really exceptional, accelerating the phenolic and aromatic ripening of the grapes, and enabling us to pick each grape variety at the best possible time.

The harvest began 10 days earlier than in 2019 with the Cabernet Franc on 17 March, followed by the Syrah grapes on the 25th.

We were then able to wait until the perfect balance between aromatic and phenolic maturity had been achieved in the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which we harvested
from 31 March until 9 April.
Thanks to these lasting conditions, the harvest thus accelerated with the Carmenere and Petit Verdot picked particularly early, between 6 and 17 April.

Below-average rainfall and above-average temperatures played a decisive role in the outstanding balance achieved for this 2020 vintage. The resulting wine is generous and powerful, yet fine and elegant.

It boasts a distinctive Chilean identity, particularly regarding the expression of the fruit, which, combined with a concentrated mid-palate, contributes complexity and richness while fully showcasing the terroir.

2020 boasts outstanding ageing potential and is on par with the greatest Chilean vintages.

Palate starts out powerful and complex, becoming wonderfully concentrated and full-bodied, underpinned by a tight-knit, fine tannic structure. Very well-balanced mid-palate with natural freshness, revealing a complex array of flavours elegantly combining notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and Ente plum with spices and pepper, enhanced by a touch of ristretto. The finish is concentrated and well-balanced, with long-lasting black fruit aromas, followed by retro nasal notes of liquorice, cedar, and toasted almonds.

The powerful, refined finish goes on and on, suggesting excellent ageing potential.

CLIMATOGRAPHY, HARVEST CONDITIONS

The 2019 vintage benefited from particularly hot and dry weather conditions, with the mean temperature above the ten-year average (+0.3°C). Meanwhile, rainfall was much lower than usual (36 to 42% less than the previous year) and concentrated exclusively over the winter period. These were optimum conditions for the growth cycle. The cold winter months provided a good dormancy period for the vines. Then, nature gradually awoke with the onset of spring, triggering steady bud break. The hot, dry spell that followed – a prominent feature of this vintage – was conducive to quick and even flowering.

Summer began generally warmer than average (+0.5°C), resulting in fairly slow yet harmonious veraison. Late summer/early autumn was slightly cooler compared to previous years (-0.5°C), propitious to slow ripening. Then, April confirmed the trend for a hot vintage. The acceleration in ripening meant that the grapes had to be picked in haste. The lack of rainfall during this period determined the typical characteristics of this vintage and we were able to harvest each grape variety at peak ripeness.

Picking began on 27 March with the Syrah grapes, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon from 15 to 24 April, once perfect balance between aromatic and phenolic ripeness had been achieved. Fortunately, due to the dry weather, the harvest extended until late April, with the last pass of Carmenère on 29 April, finishing with Petit Verdot on 13 May.

The resulting vintage is deep and intense, yet fine and elegant. It boasts a distinctive Chilean identity, particularly regarding the expression of the fruit, which, combined with a rich and concentrated mid-palate, contributes complexity and freshness while fully showcasing the terroir.

2019 boasts outstanding ageing potential and is on par with the greatest Chilean vintages.

TASTING NOTES

The color is intense, deep ruby-red with violet highlights. The nose, intense and potent on the nose, revealing black fruit aromas with predominant notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry. Spices such as black pepper gradually come to the fore, mingled with subtle aromas of cedarwood, vanilla, caramel, and toasted hazelnuts imparted by oak ageing.

Palate starts out potent and complex on the palate with good concentration and volume, accompanied by elegantly structured and wonderfully ripe tannins. Nicely balanced mid-palate with a natural freshness that brings out a complex aromatic expression where wild blueberry and blackberry notes elegantly intertwine with Asian spices like Sichuan pepper and a hint of toffee. Long, well-balanced and concentrated on the finish, with lingering aromas of black fruit, marking a return to peppery notes and toasted almond notes. The exceptionally persistent finish combines power and elegance, accounting for this wine’s excellent ageing potential.

CLIMATOGRAPHY, HARVEST CONDITIONS

Weather conditions for the 2018 vintage were quite exceptional throughout the entire vine cycle. Although the amount of rainfall was 25-30% lower than the average for the last eight vintages, 75% fell during the winter, generating substantial water reserves which ensured optimum conditions for vegetation growth. This was followed by a perfect combination of hot, dry weather and cooler spells at important stages in the cycle, bringing the grapes to optimum aromatic and phenolic maturity so that picking could start at the best possible time.
The harvest started with the Cabernet Franc on 5 April, followed by the Syrah four days later. We were then able to wait for the Cabernet Sauvignon to reach a perfect combination of aromatic and phenolic maturity, picking the grapes from 19 to 26 April. The harvest extended into May as the balanced weather conditions continued: we picked the last Carmenere between 2 and 5 May and the Petit Verdot on 14 and 15 May.

Although rainfall was lower than normal and temperatures were higher than average, they were nevertheless ideally distributed over the vegetation cycle, giving them a decisive influence on the exceptional balance achieved in the 2018 vintage.

As a result, the wines express generosity and power while remaining elegant and refined. They have a very marked Chilean identity, especially in their expression of the fruit which, combined with concentration on the mid-palate, gives them complexity and richness and reveals the distinctive character of their terroirs. Having produced wines with excellent ageing potential, 2018 takes its place among the great Chilean vintages.
