2022 VINTAGE

2022 enjoyed very favorable conditions, allowing the grapes to ripen well.

The year started with a very cool spring, then temperatures rose gradually, particularly beneficial for creating slow ripening conditions, high aromatic intensity, a high level of concentration and great phenolic ripeness.

This vintage has great potential and perfectly expresses both the Chilean terroir and grape varieties. It boasts good typical aromas, a delicate and elegant mouthfeel with a high level of concentration, alongside great acidity and freshness.

The 2022 vintage has great balance between structure and elegance on the palate, giving complex, fresh wines with good ageing potential.

MATURING

80% of the wine is matured in French oak barrels (new barrels and 90% 1-to-2-year old barrelsand), for eight months before bottling.

Fresh and elegant - Cherry - Spicy notes

Aspect

Cherry-red colour with smooth ruby-red highlights.

Nose

Very intense, refreshing and fruity with notes of small red fruit (tart cherry, black cherry, wild berries), wet soil and floral hints, mingled with smooth aromas of marzipan and crème brûlée.

Palate

An elegant, refreshing and fruity wine with good volume mid-palate and smooth, elegant tannins. The aromatic complexity and red fruit notes return on the long finish, accompanied by good acidity.

2021 VINTAGE

2021 was a good vintage overall.

The weather conditions were very varied, with some precipitation in summer, but without causing too many vine health complications. Temperatures were fairly variable, with a warm January and a cooler than average February and March compared to previous years, followed by a warm April.

Véraison (colour change) stretched over a long period, but it concluded with very even results and the maturation period was slow, conducive to the development of aromas and the concentration of the grapes.

In short, 2021 was not such an easy year weather-wise, yet excellent vineyard management was achieved thanks to the expertise of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild grape growers and winemakers, together with suitable irrigation techniques and choosing to harvest at precisely the right time. In the end, the balance between good structure and elegance on the palate truly showcases the terroir.

Aspect

Cherry-red with delicate ruby-red highlights

Nose

A very intense, fruity wine with red fruit aromas such as cherry, cranberry, sage and earthy forest floor mingled with smooth nuances of spices and jam, combined with a hint of toasted almonds imparted by barrel ageing.

Palate

Starts out excellent and very refreshing on the palate. Good volume and nice unctuous texture mid-palate. The structure reveals very smooth and elegant tannins. The aromatic complexity and red fruit notes return on the long finish, accompanied by good acidity.

2020 VINTAGE

Overall, the 2020 harvest was a success, despite the fact that drought-like conditions persisted throughout the season and average maximum temperatures were slightly higher than in 2019.

It should be noted that no precipitation fell during the ripening stage for this vintage.

Despite the capricious weather conditions during the 2020 grape harvest, excellent vineyard management was achieved thanks to the expertise of the Baron Philippe de Rothschild grape growers and winemakers, together with suitable irrigation techniques and correct predictions on harvest dates. In the end, the balance between aromatics, structure, and elegance on the palate showcases the terroir in all its qualities.

Aspect

Very brilliant, beautiful cherry red colour with subtle purple highlights.

Nose

A very intense, fruity and complex wine revealing red fruit notes like cherry, raspberry, blackberry, rosehip, and earthy forest floor intermingled with discreet oak-imparted notes of caramel and fruit cake.

Palate

A full-bodied wine, with good entry to the palate, very fresh. Good volume and nice unctuous texture on the mid-palate. Very fine, smooth, elegant structure. The aromatic complexity and red fruit aromas return on the long finish.

2019 VINTAGE

Particularly hot and dry conditions in 2019 enabled the grapes to reach optimum maturity.

Lower than average rainfall, concentrated almost entirely during the winter, combined with slightly higher-than-average temperatures ensured perfect conditions for the vine growth cycle, enabling the grapes to reach optimum aromatic and phenolic maturity.

These exceptional conditions generated natural concentration while preserving balance and refinement, allowing the grapes to achieve the purest expression of the identity of each terroir.

As a result, the wines express all the generosity and power of Chile while remaining elegant and silky.

Offering excellent ageing potential, 2019 is one of the great Chilean vintages.

Aspect

Clear, beautiful cherry-red with ruby highlights.

Nose

An intensely fruity wine, with notes of red fruit such as cherry and raspberry, and an earthy character, combined with soft spicy aromas imparted by oak ageing.

Palate

Starts out superb and very refreshing, with excellent acidity. The structure reveals highly refined and elegant tannins. Red fruit aromas follow through to the aftertaste, with lots of complexity and a long finish.

2018 VINTAGE

Overall, the weather in 2018 was exceptional, bringing the grapes to optimum maturity while retaining their freshness.

The harvest was early, starting on 23 February with the Villavicencio white grapes and ending on 10 May with the Carmenere grapes. At the Maipo winery, grapes came in from 26 March to 17 May.In keeping with the average, grapes were picked 10 to 15 days later than for the 2017 vintage. The decisive factor was a period of relatively low temperatures during the end of the ripening process, from December to February. The grapes ripened more slowly as a result, allowing them to preserve an aromatic freshness sometimes difficult to attain in Chile. This was followed by excellent weather which brought the grapes to optimum phenolic maturity and heralded the start of the harvest. At this stage 2018 is a very promising vintage, combining good concentration and powerful, expressive fruit.

Aspect

Pale cherry red with a ruby tint.

Nose

The nose is very complex and fresh, with intense, forward fruit on cherry, raspberry mingled with gentle toasted almond notes.

Palate

The wine has a very good attack, on elegant and succulent tannins.

Fruit flavours on the mid-palate, especially cherry, while the elegant finish combines the fullness of fresh fruit with the refinement of the Casablanca terroir.
