Escudo Rojo is a fine blend of traditional grape varieties grown in our own vineyard and in rigorously selected parcels by our partners. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah and Cabernet Franc grapes are selected by our technical team and vinified in the Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile bodega. Year after year, that subtle combination yields a round, complex and concentrated wine with attractively expressive fruit.

Tasting notes

  • Aspect : Dark red with a crimson tint.

  • Nose : The highly complex nose opens on an elegant combination of ripe red and black fruit aromas together with delicate toasted hazelnut notes.

  • Palate : From an attack on expressive, ripe red fruit notes such as cherry and raspberry, the packed and rich mid-palate reveals an array of red and black fruit flavours accompanied by subtle coffee notes. Toasted hazelnut notes make an attractive return, bringing length and balance to a finish underpinned by refined tannins.

Escudo Rojo Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This typical Bordeaux grape variety prospers in Chile’s famous Maipo Valley. The perfect expression of a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine gains in roundness and refinement with age.

Tasting notes

  • Aspect : A dark-hued red-purple.

  • Nose : The refined and complex nose opens on an array of red and black fruit aromas accompanied by hints of mocha.

  • Palate : The rich attack reveals attractive notes of ripe red fruit such as raspberry and morello cherry. The succulent mid-palate expresses powerful black fruit flavours such as blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by a touch of liquorice, leading into a highly-refined finish on black fruit and roast coffee notes underpinned by elegant tannins.

Escudo Rojo Carmenere 2016

Having disappeared from Bordeaux vineyards in the 19th century, Carmenere has made a miraculous recovery, becoming Chile’s signature grape. Escudo Rojo Carmenere is sourced from a selection of the best parcels in the Rapel Valley, giving the wine all its character and intensity.

Tasting notes

  • Aspect : Dark crimson with a purple hue.

  • Nose : The nose opens on powerful black fruit aromas, such as bilberry and blackberry, followed and enhanced by refined roast coffee and mocha notes.

  • Palate : A rich and powerful attack on attractive notes of beautifully ripe black fruit leads into a round and dense mid-palate on which lingering black fruit flavours are joined by attractive spice notes such as black pepper and paprika, typical of the Carmenere grape. The elegant finish, underpinned by highly refined tannins, is marked by a return of the mocha notes found on the nose.

This typical Chilean grape variety is well-known for producing  high quality wines with remarkable depth of flavor and concentrated tannins. Escudo Rojo Syrah is sourced from rigorously selected parcels in the “Valle del Maipo”.

  • Aspect : An attractive, dense and glittering ruby red with violet highlights.

  • Nose : The intense and complex nose subtly combines black fruit and blackberry aromas mingled with discreet black pepper, mocha and vanilla notes.

  • Palate : From a fresh and generous attack, the powerful and succulent midpalate harmoniously reveals the subtle balance between elegant tannins and aromatic black fruit, spice and coffee flavours. The long and elegant finish expresses all the class of Maipo Valley Syrah.

Escudo Rojo Chardonnay is sourced from a selection of the best parcels in the Casablanca Valley, the region in Chile most renowned for the quality of its Chardonnay. With  its Bordeaux style, Baron Philippe de Rothschild has created an elegant and highly refined wine.

  • Aspect : A lovely golden yellow.

  • Nose : Very powerful, this complex nose opens on exotic fruits like mango and pineapple combined with delicate notes of toasted bread.

  • Palate : From an elegant and powerful attack on notes of pineapple, mango and toasted almonds, the mid-palate reveals all its creamy smoothness and power, developing peach flavours with touches of toasted bread.

  • Palate : The elegant and powerful attack reveals the same flavours as on the nose, joined by delicate touches of citrus fruit which bring roundness and density to the mid-palate. Refined tropical fruit flavours linger on the beautifully long finish.

Escudo Rojo Rosé combines all the distinctive character of Chile with the elegance of the Bordeaux style. Syrah and Carmenere, typical Chilean grape varieties, bring character, freshness and spicy notes, while Cabernet Sauvignon, the signature Bordeaux variety, gives the wine its refinement and lushness.
